Dr. Mistry:

Welcome to the Armour Men’s Health Hour. I’m Dr. Mistry. I here with Donna Lee.

Donna Lee:

Hello everybody.

Dr. Mistry:

Welcome to our show here today. We’re very excited about bringing you an opportunity to talk about men’s health topics and health topics that are important to men. We hope to provide you with some very interesting information, some very specific information on topics that a lot of men consider to be very private and maybe have a lot of questions about. I’m Dr. Mistry. I’ve been here in Austin for the last 12 years. I started my own practice in a private urology practice coming out of training in Houston, Texas at Baylor College of Medicine. And I’ve had the fortunate ability to take care of over 10,000 patients with a variety of health conditions ranging from prostate cancer to kidney stones, low testosterone, infertility, and a variety of other things. The type of practice that we’ve put together, I consider is unique. We have a holistic approach that we’re going to be very glad to talk about today. I’m honored to have our office manager, Donna Lee with us today.

Donna Lee:

Well, hello. Thank you. Thanks for having me.

Dr. Mistry:

Donna, how did you come to join us?

Donna Lee:

Well, it was by fate. One day I got a call from a Dr. Sunny Mistry and I did not know who he was or why he was calling me at our South location I was working at and management. But then we met and decided to be besties and here I am, I’m your practice manager and I have been for a couple of years and it’s a lot of fun. And we have 30 amazing, lovely humans that work with us. We’ve got some partners and I know you’re going to talk about our staff and all of our ancillary services as well.

Dr. Mistry:

Well, you know I get to come across a lots of doctors and lots of people in different kinds of practices. And, I’ve really tried to keep a lot of the enjoyment and excitement of medical practice alive within our practice, regardless of how busy it can be. And one of the reasons that I decided to put this show together was because I feel what we do is so novel and unique that it’s impossible to explain it on a web ad or, you know, even when we get invited to explain what we do on TV shows or other radio programs. So I thought, you know what, we’re just gonna make it a whole hour. And that way we can talk about the nuance of what we do.

Donna Lee:

Absolutely, and when we visit other doctors and offices, they always ask if we have a lot of fun, if we have a lot of jokes. And I think that’s one of the reasons why Dr. Mistry volunteered himself to be a urologist. Is that correct?

Dr. Mistry:

That’s right. You know, people ask me all the time why I became a urologist and I tell him it’s, it’s because of the jokes. One of the, one of the very first times that I met a urologist was our program chairman, one of the nationally renowned urologists having a special visiting professorship. And in the middle of his talk he talked about how large his penis was. And I thought, my God, this is exactly the kind of field that I’m going to go into. A bunch of lighthearted, very intelligent people. And I really haven’t been disappointed. A little bit about our practice, we have four offices: up in round rock, on Hesters crossing. We have a Lakeline office on High Meadow and one 183, a new South Austin location opening up on July 1st. And where’s that one located?

Donna Lee:

6501 South Congress. So it’s going to be a very trendy up and coming spot in South Austin.

Dr. Mistry:

And then we have an office in Dripping Springs as well. We have three physicians and three nurse practitioner and physician assistants. What makes us unique however, is the fact that we have an in-house nutritionist, an in-house pelvic floor physical therapist, an in-house sex therapist, an in-house sleep therapist, and all of these different components allow us to provide a really comprehensive care of our patients. And we look forward to sharing that with you. Okay.

Donna Lee:

Absolutely. I think every office that we’ve talked to when we tell them how many specialists we have in-house or ancillary services, they’re always shocked. So I know we’re going to talk a lot about how sleep affects our patients. Our sex therapist is onsite and she’s phenomenal and I think everything we have to offer is super, incredibly unique. And, I think you all will be very impressed.

Dr. Mistry:

So, many of you may not know what a urologist does, but a urologist is a type of surgeon. That is how most of our training is done. I personally practice in the office for three clinical days a week and I operate two days a week. The types of things we see in the clinic can range from prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, kidney stones, testicular pain, hormone therapy, fertility treatments, incontinence. The types of things that we do in operating room can include robotic surgery for prostate removal, endoscopic surgery for kidney stones, and then of course a variety of surgery that we do on the penis and scrotum. Now what is unique about our practice is how comprehensive we try to approach patients. And so I thought every week I’d bring you a patient case that kind of illustrates that.

Dr. Mistry:

And today I’m going to talk about a 38 year old man that came to see us about nine months ago. He is 38 years old. His wife is 32. They’ve been trying to get pregnant for the last year. When they, when we first saw him, he came in at about 270 pounds. He’s five foot 10. He snored like a locomotive. He had issues with high cholesterol, high blood pressure. He was pre-diabetic. But he was there because he was trying to get pregnant. His initial semen analysis showed a low concentration of sperm, with sperm that weren’t moving well. His physical exam and his laboratory exam found him to have low testosterone as well as a condition called a varicocele. A varicocele is a well known condition that affects fertility.

Dr. Mistry:

It has to do with the venous drainage of the testicles. Very commonly seen in men with fertility. I think that, largely a lot of practices would really just treat his hormones and maybe surgically fixes varicocele and those were done. But, uh, we were able to send them to our nutritionist for weight loss. Ultimately fixed his high cholesterol and high blood pressure. And because of this, nine months later, they are now three months pregnant. And we’re very proud of kind of the impact that we’ve made. He lost 40 pounds. He’s feeling healthier, exercising regularly. And this is kind of the approach that we take. And I know the staff’s always super excited to see them come back in the clinic and see the babies come with them. So we’re super excited about these cases and I think that’s, that’s really a testament to the kind of staff that we’ve put together that they’re also excited about what we do. So we’re very excited about being able to present this show, and talk about a variety of topics. And we’ll be right back.
